À propos
Opened on 20 June 1998, the Dijon auditorium is the collective work of the architectural firms Arquitectonica (Miami) and Bougeault-Walgenwitz (Dijon), assisted by Richard Martinet (Paris). Its acoustics, one of the finest in Europe, make it a sought-after venue for the greatest international orchestras and conductors. Its modern technical facilities also make it a genuine production venue for opera, theatre and dance, a role it has fulfilled to the full, complementing the Grand Théâtre, since the creation of the Duo Dijon in 2002.
In order to offer an increasingly versatile space open to all forms of artistic expression, this year the auditorium is inaugurating a new configuration, welcoming both the public and the artists directly on stage for two operas and two recitals.
In this way, the auditorium remains true to its mission: to bring audiences and artists together to engage in dialogue, listen to each other and hear each other.
The auditorium is made up of two large triangular volumes, the base building and the bridge building, through which the audience enters 12.60 metres above street level. The façades are clad in flamed Chassagne stone. An elliptical skylight runs vertically through the bridge building. A monumental metal sculpture closes the curve along the stage.
The overall volume of the building fits into the curved composition that surrounds the district. Access is via a reception hall that crosses the Boulevard de Champagne. From here, there are commanding views through large glass walls over the Boulevard de Champagne, the Boulevard Clemenceau and the Place Jean-Bouhey.
