À propos
This square is located on the edge of Saint-Bénigne cathedral. It is the only vestige of the extensive gardens that accompanied the former abbey of Saint Bénigne, founded in the 6th century.
The church and monastery buildings - of which the abbot's dwelling and the old cellar remain - were set in the heart of a vast enclosure, encompassing a cloister garden, orchard and vegetable garden.
All that remains of this garden is a well. Refurbished in 1977, the square is shaded by chestnut, lime, maple, birch and poplar trees.
