Ville de Saulieu

A former relay on the Roman road from Autun to Auxerre, the medieval town, where inns and taverns flourished, has kept its vocation as a gastronomic stopover, already appreciated by Madame de Sévigné and Napoleon. In addition to a few internationally renowned restaurants, there is a tower, a vestige of the 14th century fortifications. While strolling through the streets, one passes in front of the house where François Pompon was born and to whom one owes the famous bronze bull installed on the edge of the departmental road 906 (next to the tourist office). The small paved square with its 18th century fountain invites you to visit the most famous Romanesque church in the Côte-d'Or, the Saint-Andoche basilica. Gateway to the Morvan Regional Nature Park, Saulieu is the capital of the Christmas tree, and the place where every year in August the king of Charolais (remarkable site of taste) is honoured.
