From its granite promontory, the view embraces a vast panorama, from the Seven Islands to the east, Millau Island to the west, and the Triagoz archipelago to the north.
With the rhythm of the tides, the colors and the lights, Castel Erek is a fine example of a preserved coastline. Its rocky foreshore is home to a unique flora and fauna, enlivened by the flight of seabirds.
The Castel Erek shoreline is very exposed to the power of the swell, as evidenced by the many large pebbles that litter the ground.
A century of granite quarrying has left its mark on the area: a stepped quarry face, retreating cliffs, sharp-edged boulders, a water-filled quarry...
Fauna: the granite headland is home to waders such as the oystercatcher, turnstone and purple snipe. Nesting in the Réserve Naturelle des Sept Îles, gannets can be seen just a short distance from the headland. On the moor, the whinchat and the pitchou warbler nest in gorse and blackthorn. Natterjack toads and grass snakes use the ponds for breeding and foraging.
In terms of flora, the influence of the marine environment is strong: wind, aridity and sea spray are decisive factors in the establishment of vegetation. It has had to adapt to different environments: pebbles, rocky outcrops, coastal and dune grassland.
