Port de Merrien

Sheltered from the whims of the ocean, the port of Merrien unveils its 102 permanent moorings behind a moorland and woodland headland, dominated by the ashlar "customs house". Here, oyster farming and shellfish sales are the order of the day, with two oyster houses in operation throughout the year. This quiet, restful little port of character inspired local writer Jean Merrien, who chose the name to publish his works describing the beauty and magic of the area. The Conservatoire du Littoral made the Merrien peninsula its first management site in Brittany in the 1970s, proving its environmental value.
