Ile Vierge

📍 Plouguerneau, Finistère · 29880 Plouguerneau
À propos
Ile Vierge is located 1.5 km from the coast, northeast of the entrance to Aber-Wrac'h. In the mid-15th century, the minor Cordeliers of the Observance founded a monastery on the island, where they remained for some 60 years, before returning to the mainland at Aber Wrac'h.

At 82.50 m, the lighthouse on Île Vierge is the highest in Europe. 365 steps lead to the top of this granite tower, which is lined with 12,500 opaline slabs. Next to it is the small lighthouse, a square tower 33 meters high, whose foghorn is the only one still activated in foggy weather.
