Until 1920, the dune, 6 to 8 meters high, covered the entire beach. Subsequently, sand extraction increased until the construction of the Rance dam in 1960. Tourist activities (camping, vehicles) contributed to the degradation of the dune. Since 1983, the Département d?Ille-et-Vilaine has been working to preserve this site, which is owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral. Oyats have been planted to restore the dune, and a natural parking area has been created to limit the impact of tourism.
Anse du Verger has long been a place of meditation around the Notre-Dame-Du-Verger chapel, dedicated to the sea and fishermen.
The guardhouse on the Pointe des Daules, now a listed monument, was home to the customs officers who paced the path, watching for any contraband landings.
Here, the combination of dunes, marshes and cliffs offers a sumptuous landscape and a rich variety of plant and animal life. The dunes are home to many oyats, as well as dune bindweed and pyramidal orchid. In the marsh, broom reeds are the most numerous and willows grow here and there. A large and diverse fauna colonizes the different environments of the site. Passerines are very numerous. Moorhens and frogs are harder to see, but their presence is loud and clear.
