Eglise Saint-Rémi de Boutancourt

Saint-Rémi church was rebuilt in 1883 (date inscribed on the entrance pediment) to plans by Mézières architect Goutant, and blessed on August 31, 1884. In 1306, Boutancourt's church was the parish relief of Saint-Martin-sur-Bar, a status it maintained until 1833. The first building was constructed in the 13th century, but another part dates back to the 15th century, and the rest was built in 1789. Part of the church burned down on March 24, 1882 (the town council had decided to rebuild it on March 3, 1878). The initial estimate of 37,500 francs was exceeded, and the church ended up costing 51,000 francs. Notre-Dame church, located in the center of the village and facing north, adopts a Latin cross plan. The façade is dominated by a half-timbered bell tower, which serves as a vestibule to the nave. The single-vessel nave is followed by a projecting transept and a flat-sided choir, with the sacristy attached to the left side of the choir. Built of ashlar, the church has two levels: a vaulted basement used by the municipality, and a liturgical space lit by tall lancet windows. The bell tower has three levels, and the whole structure is covered in slate.
