This pretty town of 7,000 inhabitants on the Route des Vins between Obernai and Sélestat is well worth a visit. I'm going to show you that history doesn't mean the sea. Let's take a little tour of the heart of the town - follow me!
Meet at Place de l'Hôtel de Ville, THE place to see in Barr, especially if it's your first visit:
The Hôtel de Ville, built on the ruins of an ancient castle destroyed by the Devil (yes, yes!), boasts a Renaissance-style facade.
Opposite is the Auberge du Brochet, which has stood the test of time and could already have been the subject of positive reviews on Tripadvisor back in 1521 - the town?s many inns were all named after animals.
The fountain known as "L'Enfant à la Conque", from the top of which a child enjoys listening to the gossip and other little stories of the town? If you listen carefully, you might just hear something!
Come closer to the fountain and you'll see the bell tower? It's the Protestant church, built on the heights of Barr, near the vineyards. I invite you to take the stairs to reach it.
Here we are, facing the Kirchberg. This hill on which vines grow has given its name to a Grand Cru, meaning a wine produced only here (to be tasted without hesitation at one of Barr?s winegrowers!) Turn around and admire the view: it deserves a photo, doesn?t it?
Moving on, I suggest you take the pleasant tree-lined Amandiers path back down to the town center.
