The commune of Gundershoffen extends eastwards in a hilly landscape, around the associated commune of Eberbach and the hamlet of Schirlenhof. It was here that the first battle of the 1870 war took place between a French fighter patrol and a German patrol commanded by Count Zeppelin (later known for his airships).
The commune has undergone considerable development, but has lost none of its character as an Alsatian village.
In 1998, the B?hli aperitif cookie manufacturer set up shop here. Today, the Fabrique à Bretzels B?hli (B?hli Pretzel Factory) gives visitors an insight into the origins of the company and the history of the pretzel.
