À propos
"Le c?ur en partage" is an exhibition of paintings by Nicolas Wa%EBl, on display at the Jesuit Church.
Born in Reims in 1970 and trained in fashion and jewelry design in Paris, Nicolas De Wa%EBl displays a multidisciplinary creative talent. His expertise has been honed through collaborations with artisanal workshops, for which he designs lighting, ceramics, glassware, and jewelry. His influences range from English gardens to the decorative arts, from architecture to primitive arts, and from Mediterranean light to the poetry of haiku.
For several years now, the artist has devoted himself to painting and observing the world of the senses. Under the title “Par%E9%EFdolie Ukiyo-e,” his canvases lie somewhere between abstraction and figuration. In them, he captures the ephemeral quality of a weightless space where the eye perceives forms within the formless— landscape fragments or plant-like movements—as if echoing the “Floating World.”
The work takes shape through the vibration of color; the artist builds his palette by layering glazes. This interplay of transparencies allows forms to emerge, their partial obscurity heightening the revelation and lending the canvas a shifting depth. From this succession of intuitive strokes arises an encounter with the intangible. Nicolas De Wa%EBl offers the mind the freedom to chart its own interpretation: a contemplative experience in which the viewer’s gaze itself completes the journey.
