Hôtel des Postes

📍 Strasbourg, Bas-Rhin · 5 avenue de la Marseillaise, 67000 Strasbourg
À propos
Relocating Strasbourg's central post office, previously located on the Place de la Cathédrale, enabled the imperial government to assert the position of the Neustadt as the city's new political and administrative centre.

The Hôtel des Postes was built in 1899, breaking with the neo-Renaissance style of institutional buildings around the Place de la République. The Secretary of State for the Post Office, Heinrich von Stephan, approved by Emperor Wilhelm II, preferred a Gothic Revival building which, in the words of the Kaiser, represented "a very suitable break with the Renaissance style".
