Monument Hirn

Physicist, astronomer, mathematician and philosopher, Gustave Adolphe Hirn (1815-1890) is the great Colmarian scientist. The application of his research in thermodynamics and petroleum techniques made him one of the pioneers of modern industry. The bronze statue represents the member of the Institute at his chair. It is the work of Auguste Bartholdi and was inaugurated barely four years after the scientist's death in 1894.
