À propos
Sentheim?s Saint-Georges church was built in 1779, according to plans by the architect Gaspard Mertz, then working for Masevaux Abbey. It replaced the old village church, becoming a new place of worship at the heart of the community.
The church interior features remarkable liturgical furnishings made entirely of wood: choir altars, side altars, confessionals and pulpit bear witness to the craftsmanship of the period. The bell tower was added in the 19th century.
The organ, built between 1787 and 1788 by Rabigny, is of pneumatic construction. It has undergone several major transformations: first by Callinet in 1841, then by Martin Rinckenbach, who modernized it while respecting its original character.
Behind the high altar, an imposing oil on canvas depicts Saint George slaying the dragon, a symbol of faith and the victory of good over evil.
Opposite the church, a small square features a Lourdes grotto with fountain, as well as the war memorial, a place of remembrance and meditation for the local population.
