MONTORMENTIER

📍 Cusey, Haute-Marne · 52190 Cusey
À propos
Montormentier is the site of a legend: in Merovingian times, Queen Brunehaut, who had made many enemies, was tried, tortured? and finally tied to the tail of an untamed stallion. She was found at the foot of the hill still known today as Mont des Tourments (i.e. Montormentier). Her rival, Clotaire, decided to burn her as a witch. Her ashes were collected and transported to Autun, where they were deposited in the monastery that Brunehaut herself had built to the glory of God.
