Godzilla is the nickname my sworn enemy, Thomas, used to call me in middle school. That was the turning point, the moment when my body took on a social dimension and suddenly became a problem to be solved, a source of worry. More than twenty years later, and despite many therapies, I have to admit that this body of mine is still a source of concern, an issue that keeps coming up.
It is self-image that I want to talk about: the way we present ourselves to the world, the way we put ourselves on display, how we are sometimes embarrassed by our bodies, and how we try as best we can to elevate them, %E0 if we can’t fully accept it. *Godzilla’s Revenge* is about the monster deciding to reclaim control over its image—and, above all, over its own self-perception—by retracing a journey that is both personal and societal.
Laurence Drouineau, author and actress
A liberating show for everyone!
School performance on Friday, October 9.
