PIERREFAITES

Before the French Revolution, Pierrefaites was the administrative center of a vast deanery comprising over 30 parishes in the diocese of Langres. Its advanced position on Champagne soil opposite Franche-Comté led to its destruction in 1636 by Gallas. Since 1972, the villages of Pierrefaites and Montesson have merged to form the commune of Pierremont, whose name comes from the association of the first syllables of these two toponyms.
