Croix du Jaranceau

Known as Jérenceau or Jaranceau, this cross dates from 1626 and was restored in 1750. On one side, Christ with flattened thorax, girded by a heavy drapery, is depicted. On the right, under the arm of the cross, is Saint Madeleine, her head veiled, while on the left stands Saint John. On the reverse, the square-jawed Virgin holds the naked Child on her lap. Saint Paul is shown with his keys on the shaft, symbolizing his authority.

Listed as a historic monument since 1926, it is one of 145 crosses in the Val-d'Ajol, and forms part of the largest Way of the Cross in Christendom.
