Visite guidée : La pointe de Jardeheu vue par un géologue

The rocks at La Pointe de Jardeheu tell a story that seems as remote as it is unimaginable today, transporting us back 610 to 575 million years, to a time when La Hague was probably no more than a string of islands, bordered to the north by a vast ocean and to the south by a restricted marine domain located close to a mega-continent, Gondwana.
Thanks to plate tectonics, La Hague was located near the South Pole! These islands, probably of volcanic origin, were fed by magma chambers, which are accessible today thanks to erosion on the plateau, and which tell us about the injection of four successive magma episodes.
Pointe de Jardeheu also bears witness to a much more recent history: the formation of a beach 115,000 years ago, just before the last Ice Age.
