À propos
For the first time at Le Volcan, TOVEL—the alias of renowned composer Matteo Franceschini, winner of the Silver Lion at the 2019 Venice Biennale—presents his new hybrid creation, CORE.
On stage, a structure built like an amphitheater frames a group of musicians. This classical orchestra is complemented by an electronic composition, closer in style to that of a DJ. Bathed in spectacular lighting, the musicians play, subvert, repeat, modulate, accentuate, and truncate Beethoven’s music. Or, to be more precise: the thematic cell from which Beethoven builds his music. What TOVEL offers is not a tribute—it is more than that.
It is a performance that reveals the contemporary relevance of Beethoven’s musical lines. By combining electronics with classical instruments, performed live in front of the audience, TOVEL opens wide doors for reflection on the history of music, its evolution, and its ability to create unity amid diversity.
Duration: 1 hour 10 minutes
Ages 8 and up
