Chapelle Saint Sulpice

This little chapel, simple in its architecture but always well-decorated, was built in the 19th century on and next to a good fountain located to the east of the village, in a valley that slopes down to the Gartempe river. In the past, a major pilgrimage was held here on the last Sunday in August. The statue of the saint was carried from the chapel to the parish church, and bunches of grapes were hung from the statue's hands. On returning to the chapel after the procession, the priest would detach the grapes and offer them one by one to the children. Saint Sulpice is invoked as protector, patron and guardian of children. Local girls would also come to give a handkerchief as an offering to the saint to help them find a husband. The fountain that bears his name was reputed to cure rheumatism and help children walk, and to protect and heal sick children
