From the top of its spur (965m) overlooking the Ariège valley, with its 2 walls, Lordat is considered one of the largest medieval fortresses in the former county of Foix.
First of comtal rank, then royal, a Cathar stronghold built in several phases, it is mentioned in writings as early as 1030, and was occupied from the 11th to the 17th century.
It offers a remarkable panorama of the valley floor. Approx. 10-minute walk to the castle.
Numerous events, bird-of-prey shows and guided tours in July and August.
Guided tours for groups all year round (booking required).
