An irresistible swing, joyful jazz, a touching vibe, a colourful palette, ‘unclassifiable and delightful’ (Jazz Hot-Jazz in Marciac) – that’s how ‘Sweet Mama’ describes itself. Formed in Poitiers, Sweet Mama has built a solid reputation in the jazz and blues scene thanks to the originality of its line-up; the camaraderie, joy and energy that radiate from their
music are exhilarating.
Led by ‘Cajoune’ – a rhythm section specialist, washboard virtuoso, one-woman band and singer – the four musicians compose their repertoire of blues, swing, boogie-woogie, shuffles and calypso with highly personal arrangements.
They draw inspiration from Charlie Christian, Stuff Smith, Irving Berlin, Slim and Slam, Oscar Aleman, Fats Waller…
