The village of Sentheim is classified Village Cigognes d'Alsace
The village's name, Senten, first appears in 1302.
In the Middle Ages, Reinboltzweiler existed downstream, a village destroyed during the Thirty Years' War. An important pastoral activity was complemented by manufacturing and mining activities. These included coal mines, mills, tile factories and hand weaving mills, which were replaced in 1834 by the construction of a spinning mill and weaving mill.
A canal branching off from the Doller fed the turbines, providing energy.
This activity came to an end in the 1970s. Drilling for oil began in 1942, 1962 and 1987
