The old statue of Notre-Dame des Victoires, erected in a forest shelter, was erected on May 24, 1914. A new monument to the Virgin of Hennefête was inaugurated on June 20, 1920, following a vow by the people of Corcieux that if the town was spared in the First World War, they would erect a statue. The enemy having been stopped on the ridge, the inhabitants kept their word.
Legend has it that every year, on the first Friday after Trinity Sunday, a fairy called Dame Agaisse (because of her piercing, magpie-like cry) visited the Rapaille forest. All the forest's inhabitants, animals and plants, paid her homage. One day, however, the Hennefête oaks refused to bend before her. Furious, Dame Agaisse cursed them, promising that they would become small, ugly and deformed forever. To this day, the Hennefête oaks remain miserable, suffering and deformed, while everything around them prospers.
