Built by Catherine de Médicis, this monument hosts temporary summer exhibitions.
The Musée du Lauragais was built when Catherine de Médicis, Countess of Lauragais, made Castelnaudary a Sénéchaussée, with the King's approval. A court of civil and criminal justice, known as the "Présidial", was built next to the château. It was completed in 1585. In 1623, Louis XIII demolished Castelnaudary castle, but the court remained in operation until 1926. Its presence enabled many of Toulouse's judges and lawyers to settle in the town, and some fine townhouses still bear witness to this.
Inside, you can visit the small Saint Pierre chapel, which houses two magnificent 18th-century reliquary busts.
