Eglise protestante Saint Laurent
À propos
In 1496 Wasselonne became the property of Strasbourg and for a long time followed the historical evolution of the free city. Wasselonne quickly became a part of the Reformation in 1525, with Andreas Keller as its first pastor. Like many Alsatian villages with more than 7 catholic families, a simultaneous church is built. In 1686, the Protestant church of Wasselonne was divided between Catholics and Protestants. The present church dates from 1757 and was built by both religions in a baroque style. The simultaneum will last until 1941, that is to say for 255 years, until the inauguration of the catholic church Saint-Jean Bosco in 1941. In the temple is preserved the old pulpit of rocaille style, the old protestant altar of the simultaneous church is in the chapel at the entrance of the church, the stained glass windows are from the 19th century and new ones were added in 1874 in the choir. The building was quite large and could hold 500 people. The interior architecture is classical in the rural way of the 18th century: flat ceiling, large white glass windows and a small copper bell tower integrated in the frame. The main façade is gabled.
