À propos
This structure, dating from the end of the 19th century was the subject of a vast renovation-modernization operation between the fall of 2016 and 2017. The first phase of this project, which is part of the Ill's overall management plan for 2014-2024, included the construction of a canoe ramp and a fish pass.
The second phase of the work included the reconstruction of the central piers and the dam bridge. The replacement and automation of the gates and the renovation of the fish ladder were also on the program. The automation of these gates made it possible to re-establish the nautical crossing of the structure.
The dam was also equipped with six Archimedean screws or slow rotation turbines, intended for the production of hydroelectricity
This dam is the main structure of the protection system of the town of Erstein and the territory of the Eurometropole of Strasbourg against the floods of the Ill. It also allows to regulate the flow downstream of the sugar city in order to maintain the tourist navigation in the center of the Alsatian capital.
