Situated in an area hitherto devoid of major public green spaces, the Heyritz park covers 8.7 hectares and now invites the inhabitants of the district and all the people of Strasbourg to come and stroll and relax there.
As the western gateway to the Deux Rives axis, the Heyritz park is helping to reclaim Strasbourg's port and industrial wastelands. With a land surface area equivalent to that of the Parc des Contades, the site is one of the city's major parks in the same way as the Orangery, the Citadel and the Jardin des Deux Rives.
The park is criss-crossed by a network of paths, some of which are illuminated, allowing pedestrian/cyclist connections but also walks between the various points of interest on the site (floating pontoon, Vologda square with its water mirror, playground, sports ground and bleachers...).
A pedestrian-cycling bridge allows the crossing of the canal. It provides direct access to the park from the new Civil Hospital and the Finkwiller district, and on a larger scale provides a north-south link to the Schluthfeld and Plaine des Bouchers districts via the Petit Heyritz passage (pedestrian cycle tunnel under the RN4).
